How To Market Yourself As A Coach: Can I Call Myself A Coach?

How To Market Yourself As A Coach

A counselor in our private practice accelerator The 6-Figure Practice recently asked: “Is it ok for me to call myself a coach when I am not certified or educated in the art of coaching?”

I wanted to share my answer with all of you:

1. YES! Anyone that wants to call themselves a coach can. Good news, with all the years of counseling training you’ve been through you’re beyond qualified skills-wise. Going through many coaching programs myself I’ve realized that the majority of them are the same as basic helping skills for counselors in master’s programs.

2. ACA code of ethics, if I’m not mistaken mentions separating all marketing of coaching and counseling marketing completely. So personally (this is just an opinion) it is totally ok to say that there will be elements of coaching involved but probably not more than that.

3. Business-wise I HIGHLY RECOMMEND having 2 separate websites for coaching and counseling. Beyond covering all the ethics and legislation stuff, it would create 2 separate doors from 2 different types of clients to enter! This can effectively DOUBLE your clients, and beyond double your revenue (with coaching fees sky is the limit – totally up to you).  For my new 1:1 business coaching clients right now, I charge $5,900 for 12 sessions up front, or $650 n 12 payments. So around $500 per session and it’s going to go up soon . Just saying 🙂
