Hi, everyone. So I want to answer a very important question today – how to market yourself as a life coach?
That’s a big one, and I just finished a wonderful group right now, I’m teaching this class in counseling master’s program and it’s a class that goes for three years, we sit with counseling students and we kind of do this so-called development, right? So that as counselors they can be as helpful for others as possible.
So when you think about life coach marketing it’s actually more complex than people think. I think the best way, when you ask yourself how to market yourself as a life coach the best way is to be the best life coach you can be. That’s crucial. That’s the best marketing.
Because when you are providing value, when you are helping people shift how they feel about themselves, how they show up in the world in their careers and their businesses, their relationships, help others to realize and be more powerful than they think they are in the world people will vote with the feet or with the eyes or whatever it is, right?
The way you want to connect with your clients, they will continue seeing you, they will be talking about you and your impact on them with their friends and family members, and then you’re starting to create this sort of referral system for your business which is one of the best ways to market it. It takes a while, we talked about that in the six figure practice program about different strategies to market yourself.
So the one thing that you can do that would be as helpful as possible for your life coach marketing is to coach as much as possible. And if you’re just starting out that can be totally as a free offering, or at least this free initial coaching or a free consultation call. By the way, in the six figure practice program we talk a lot about how to do those consultation calls so your clients would get benefit out of those no matter what, which is also the easiest way to convert them to paying clients because they see, “Oh, I just got so much value.”
And because it’s really a catch-22, kind of a close circle situation when you’re just starting out or maybe you already have some clients but just not enough, you’re not feeling you’re making the impact that you want. The close circle situation is if you don’t have enough clients or actually if you’re not coaching enough, if you don’t have enough coaching hours in your week what starts happening is you actually are not learning how to be an efficient coach, right? And that way you’re preventing yourself from becoming that person that people will want to work with.
And the easiest way to overcome this when doing your life coach marketing is making it easier for people who do not know you to work with you, to start working with you or to start receiving value from you.
So I remember myself when I was starting my coaching business and I was thinking so much about life coach marketing, it seemed to me a little weird to offer my coaching services for free.
Now if you think about it, yeah, you should always receive value for giving your time away, giving your expertise, helping others, right? The thing is it doesn’t always have to be a monetary value, right? If you’re just starting out it’s totally to do it for free for a while. And what helps with that is having either savings for a few months or having a job that pays the bills, so you can grow your skills as a coach and your business.
And what if the value that you’re receiving doing those initial free coaching sessions or giving people free coaching sessions for free or just consultation calls for free, which is something I’m still doing by the way as a great way to create clients, the money that you receive might not be money but it might be introducing people to your services, creating referrals, them actually wanting to work with you because they first see the value then they’re willing to pay money for it, and you’re becoming a better coach which is the most incredible thing that you can do for your coaching business.
Now on top of that you’re coaching journey, becoming better as a coach, is not restricted to you just doing the work. It’s really about you adding more knowledge, more expertise to your services. And some ways to do that is investing in yourself, time and money, right? Joining coaching programs, having a coach for yourself. I have three different coaches and one therapist and neuro feedback services that I use for myself to grow myself constantly.
Coming back to what I was saying about teaching this class for the counseling students, if you do your own work, you work on your own challenges, you figure it out – you can really help others better.
Reading books, right? You can totally … It sounds impossible, but as a destination you can be at a place where you finish a book in two, three days, right? And I’m talking about nonfiction. Things that you can learn about, you’re increasing your ability to help others, your clients.
And also when you’re thinking how to market yourself as a life coach you can actually improve your life coach marketing by learning about sales, business skills, time management, marketing, internet marketing, in-person networking. All those things, there are so many resources out there.
So I use Audible, I put the audio book on x2 speed, right? I kind of trained myself, if you increase the speed of just a tiny bit, maybe 1.25 when you’re listening to the audio book for half an hour – your mind will get used to it. In case it’s 1.55 your mind will get used to it over a couple of days. 1.75, 2.0, and you’ll be good usually.
Investing in programs, especially programs about life coach marketing. It can be either the six figure private practice program or it can be any other program. I’m right now in three different programs like that, for myself, even though I have an established coaching practice and counseling practice I have … during those two weeks I have 12 consultation calls, right? So it’s booming even in the time of crisis with all the corona stuff.
By the way, I’m noticing my hair is getting longer, I definitely want to get a haircut very soon, but that’s probably not going to happen. So I think my partner will need to help me with that or me, myself.
But, yeah, it’s incredible to have your resources to help you grow, take your business to the next level. Right now I’m moving to the seven figures, right? So I’m just investing in the services of others that know the road ahead and can provide me with a clear path to do that, right?
